„Všetko (Maďari) nám zobrali, vyhnali nás z domov, pod horou sme nocovali. Rusi nás živili zo svojich kuchýň, aj oblečenie dávali. Keď znovu prišli Maďari, už nebolo nič... Strašné bolo, keď išli na „sturm“, na bodáky. Len krik bol, hluk veľký... Brat odišiel s Rusmi a už sa nevrátil. Nás potom prenasledovali, ani podporu sme nedostali.“
Zo svedectva o bojoch v Karpatoch Štefana Želizňáka z Bodružala, nar. 1901
„(Hungarians) took everything from us, drove us out of our homes, we spent the night under the mountain. The Russians fed us from their kitchens and gave us clothes. When the Hungarians came again, there was nothing... It was terrible when they went to „sturm“, to bayonets. There was only shouting, a lot of noise... The brother left with the Russians and never came back. They persecuted us after that, and we didn‘t even get support.“
